4/5/04 ..Had 72 shooters on a gorgeous spring day....All of you who left before the Can Toss side match missed a show I'll never forget. Justin Cornett made one of the most unbelievable shots from the hip I've ever witnessed to beat CC Touchmark in the final round. He also won Cowboy Trap and is a shotgun hand to be reckoned with in the future. Slim, Bud, Joe, CC, and others shot well. Hoss won the Peek-a-boo match again.... Thought the main match was a success. Thanks to stage writers and all who worked with set-up, etc... Top Gun honors went to Copperhead Joe, although he is erroneously listed as Traditional on the e-mail version. That'll be fixed on the mailed copy... Notice how close the scores are in the middle of the pack.....Congrats to Lick Creek Kid on his win in the tough Traditional category....ChasRod, Noose, CC, Emberato and both Ridge Runners obviously are workin on their game. My pard Tom Blender made the entire crowd happy by shooting perhaps his best match ever, after suffering through a couple surgeries this past winter.... Thanks to all of you for making this another super weekend at Hooten and according to some, our best match to date....Cherokee

12/10/03 Thanks to everyone for making a great year. We had 35 or so at the December shoot. The weather turned out good, a little cold but not to bad. Saint Nick (Marty Robins) came to shoot in full dress. White beard and a red suit.
Please keep in mind that we will be hosting the 2004 State Shoot.

6/9/03 The first ever 2 DAY Roy Bean was a great success. 54 cowboys and girls took a chance on the weather, and it paid off.
It was lightly raining when I arrived Friday evening. Poured the rain throughout the night and then stopped at 5 am. No rain the rest of the day with a nice cool overcast. Sunday was a great day also. I left the range at 4pm and then ran into a downpour in Richmond.
I hope everyone had a great time. I hope to see more next month.

4/8/03 April had 71 shooters out in great force. Pictures to be added soon. New (TG) Top Gun catagory added some excitement. The man on man side match after the main match was a lot of fun. If you left early, stay next time. You do not need to be a Top gun to win. I even made it through a couple of rounds on Shotgun. Man on man pistol shooters found out that the fastest dows not always win. The first target to fall wins and a hot 45 will send it down faster that 3 shots from a 38.

2/19/03 added a link to Colorado - Junction on the links page. This store is in Somerset KY

12/13/02 added December pictures to picture page.

12/10/02 41 cowboys came out in the cold. Turned out to be a great day of shooting. The sun was up and we had snow / ice under foot. A few pictures soon to follow.
There was a nice gift exchange after the main match and a large pot luck dinner.
Thank you for a great year at Hooten.

8/13/02 I have not added a lot of new things to the site recently but wanted to let you know that it is still alive. More to come soon.

4/8/2002 Seventy shooters participated on Saturday. I believe it is the largest turnout we have ever had. The weather was perfect except when then wind blew my black powder smoke back in my face.
The catagory of "Classic Cowboy" was tried out.

3/7/2002 Forty cowboys and cowgirls braved the light rain. Great turn out for the first shoot of the year. The scores are posted.

2/21/2002 Work on new site going well. Don't forget about the 2002 State Championship

11/5/2001 Announcement: We will have our Christmas shoot on December 1.  This will be a regular shoot followed by a gift exchange, followed by a pot luck meal.
Gifts: Bring one - get one.  Bring a wrapped gift in a value of around $10.
Meal: Estimated time 4 or 5 pm. Shoot is usually done around 3:30.  Bring some food and dinner ware.  Refrigeration is available if needed.

11/3/2001 58 shooters today. The weather turned out great.  We even finished sooner than normal. Scores are Here. picture page here.

9/1/2001 Had a great shoot with 59 cowboys and cowgirls. The weather provided a cool day with bursts of sunshine. The side matches after the main match are becoming a huge hit. Stick around and enjoy the fun. Cowboy trap and the team match seemed to be favorites. How fast can your team cut a 2x4 in half? Check out the scores and the pictures.

8/7/2001 I will be adding some new general pictures of the town as soon as I can scan them.

8/4/2001 52 gunfighters tempted the hot moist air but the rain did not come. Happy to see the visiting Florida boys as well as Tennessee and other states. Of course we can't do this without all of the helpful Kentucky guys and gals. Had a great turnout for the after main match side matchs. The most I have ever seen here. Speed rifle, pistol, and shotgun were the favorites. Team compition was tough. The Morehead group was out in the lead until the best of other groups got together. Check out the picture page. Scores are Here.

7/27/2001 Added some more July pictures. Thanks to Capt. Al

7/7/2001 When the smoke cleared in Hooten Old Town most of the 64 Cowboys and cowgirls had a hurtin in their jaws from grinnin so much from the days stages.

4 states were represented at the July match, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, and Kentucky. There were a few first time "Hooten" shooters this month and several first time ever shooters got in on the action.

6/11/2001 It was decided at the last match to move up the starting time to 9:00 am due to both the number of shooters and the hotter weather.

6/5/2001 Added pictures from the May mounted shoot. Sorry it took so long to get them scanned.

6/2/2001 Great shoot. We shot in the rain, in the sun, and in the rain again. It didn't slow us down. Around 70 shooters. WOW!!.
I forgot to bring my camera, but No Purse Nez sent me some pictures from the Sunday side matches and FUN mounted shoot. The competition mounted shoot was called off due to the wet conditions. Check out Ralph shooting ballons on the
picture page. If anyone has pictures from the match, send me some scanned.
Scores are
Here.
We had shooters from Ohio, Tenneesee, and Jacksonville, Florida. Thanks for coming out.

5/12/2001 Hot showers in the Jail House. There is now showers available in the Jail.

5/12/2001 The mounted shoot seemed to be a success. There were at least 15 riders. I was impressed. I will post pictures when I get them developed and scanned.

5/5/2001 Another great shoot. This was the first time that we have had enough (5) shooters in the Gunfighter and Women's class. Cherokee Big Dog took the Gunfighter silver and No Purse Nez took the Women's. We could have guessed that one. Hope to see enough sign up next month in these classes. Always feel free to try a new class.

5/5/2001 The CMSA group Bluegrass Saddleblazers will be using Hooten to hold a Mounted Shoot on Saturday 5/12/2001. If you have not seen a mounted shoot before, this will be something to take in. They expect 30 shooters.

4/7/2001 Second match of 2001. 51 shooters. I think that this was the best set of stages yet. My thanks to all of those that help develope the stages. Great weather with a nice breeze. See pictures on the Picture Page. See the scores on the Score Page.

3/19/2001 Announcing the 2nd Annual Judge Roy Bean's "Law East of the Pecos Shootout" at Hooten Old Town. June 2 & 3, 2001.

3/19/2001 Don't forget the Kentucky State Championship on June 23 & 24, 2001. See Foxbend's site for information and application.

3/4/2001 Capt. Marcum has announced that he and a few neighbors are putting in a new septic system. Plans are in the works for a new rest room facility and shower house. This will make a vast improvement over almost all clubs in Kentucky. We can encourage more women shooters that normally do not like outhouses etc. Be sure to thank Capt. Marcum. We will keep you updated on the progress.

3/4/2001 It has been announced that SASS side matches will run from 9 - 10 am on the morning of the shoot. Long distance matched will begin after the main match.

3/4/2001 First match of 2001. 42 shooters from Kentucky and Tennessee. Great weather and better comradely. See pictures on the Picture Page. Pictures are mainly of Posse 4. Thats the one I was on. See the scores on the Score Page.
